Jeni’s Ice Cream-A Demonstration on Gospel Fluency

People talk about what they love! When you are in awe of who Jesus is and what He has done for you, you will want to share it with everyone you come into contact with. There is an amazing excerpt in The Soul Winning Church that illustrates this point so well. In fact, when Jeff Medders visited Heather’s church and shared this story, the Jeni’s Ice Cream shelf was empty at her local grocery store.

“A few months ago, I was introduced to Jeni’s Ice Cream. I’ve had a lot of ice cream in my day (which is one reason why I am not marathon-ready). I grew up close the Blue Bell Ice Cream factory, and my family helped them with their profits.

I wasn’t expecting much when our friends took us to the Jeni’s in Houston. I got my three scoops-gooey butter cake, peanut butter with chocolate flecks, and brown butter almond brittle, if you’re interested. I took one bite, and instantly I realized that this might be the portal to the third heaven Paul talked about.

Jeni’s isn’t stingy or skimpy; the flavors were intense, and saturated every bite. The texture is like no other. Since that glorious day in Houston, I’ve been buying pints of Jeni’s as often as I can.

And, on top of that, I tell people about Jen’s whenever I can. I bring it up in conversations. I offer no apologies for talking about how Jeni’s in the best ice cream ever.

And you know what didn’t happen. The manager at Jeni’s didn’t tell me to talk about the ice cream. I didn’t watch a video on Jeni’s website on how to talk to people who think another ice cream is better. Excitement is all I need. I love telling people about good ice cream.

And I love telling people about Jesus and His good news. Here is D.A. Carson again: “Make sure that in your own practice and excitement, what you talk about, what you think about, what you pray over, what you exclude confidence over, joy over, what you are enthusiastic about is Jesus, the gospel, the cross.” Jeff Medders
